Summer League Ends! – July 28th, 2023

Thank you to all the parents, participants, volunteers and coaches who made our 2023 Summer League a great success!

Davis Cup Activation! – Tuesday, June 27th, 2023

On Tuesday, June 27th, JFCTA had the privilege to host the Davis Cup at the San Romanoway Theatre. Members of the Jane-Finch community stopped by, to take a picture with the Davis Cup, socialize, and enjoy some refreshments and snacks.

JFCTA Family Field Day – Sunday, June 11th, 2023

JFCTA’s Family Field Day took place at Northwood Park (1750 Sheppard Ave. West) and was designed to bring JFCTA families together for a day of summer fun. With over 35 participants attending, we got to meet some of our summer league participants who got to spend their afternoon engaging in various field day activities including face painting, ax-throwing, tug-of-war, and a three-legged race. There were lots of great prizes and treats, we look forward to continuing this event annually!

Road to Summer Fitness – Sunday, June 4th, 2023

JFCTA’s Summer Road to Fitness event in collaboration with Strength Camp TO, was a great event to kick off an active summer! Taking place at G. Ross Lord Park,  we welcomed families of all fitness levels to join us in a sweat-inducing 45-minute HIIT workout, healthy post-workout meal, and friendly competitions. Families had the opportunity to compete with each other in a pushup contest, and plank challenge, for prizes including resistance bands and jump ropes to jumpstart their workouts!

Lambton presents: JFCTA 1st Annual Tournament – Saturday, May 21st, 2023

JFCTA had the opportunity to host our first annual singles tournament at Lambton Golf and Country Club for participants ages 10-25. We would like to extend a thank you to Lambton, our volunteers and JFCTA parents for their time and the success of our event! With over 30 participants and 3 age divisions, participants played long and hard under the sun for the titles of champion and runner-up. Congratulations to Navarro Mcgregor, Raman Bissoondial, and Thuginthan Thurai on your victories!

Mommy & Me Tennis – Saturday, May 13th, 2023

Happy Mother’s Day! JFCTA celebrated Mother’s Day with a Mommy and Me Tennis session. We invited mothers and their children to join us to bond over activities, tennis, and a Mother’s Day brunch. We also had bouquets for our participants to present to their mothers as a gesture to thank them for their years of support and care. Thank you to all mothers!

Youth Project #9: Tennis FUN Day – Saturday, May 6th, 2023

Tennis FUN Day was our first outdoor event of the year and our final youth project. Elijah and Lackshiha worked hard to set-up stations and organize a day for JFCTA families to engage in various activities under the sun! Over 20 participants of all ages came together to try various tennis challenges and test out their serving speed. All participants received some tennis goodies after a long day of fun and some were lucky enough to win bigger prizes. Thank you all for another successful event!  

Youth Project #8: Coaches’ Appreciation Night – Sunday, April 30th, 2023

A big thank you to all our coaches and staff! Our programs would not be possible without our great staff. We hosted a tennis drop-in, snacks and social hour, and had little gifts to show our appreciation. All of our youth staff are previous participants of our program that have continued to volunteer and become coaches with our organization. We appreciate your continued dedication to our program. We hope everyone had a great time playing tennis and socializing!

Youth Project #7: Tennis & Mental Health Day – Monday, April 24th, 2023

Mental health and self-care is an important topic that needs to be addressed with youth. Kelly, worked tirelessly to create a Mental Health Day to inform and educate participants on understanding mental health and resources available to them. It is important to have discussions like these to promote speaking out about our own mental health and that it’s okay to access help. Additionally, we discussed the importance of self-care by providing healthy snacks, a mindful painting and coloring session, gift bags with self-care items, and a tennis session to unwind and play.

Youth Project #6: Tennis Olympics – Sunday, April 16th, 2023

Our Tennis Olympics was a fun day for our participants to challenge each other in various tennis activities organized by two of our youth, Thuginthan and Thuvarakan. They worked hard to create competitive tennis challenges with fun prizes for their peers. Participants competed with other participants in their age categories to earn tickets towards prizes. Participants competed in games of Royals Court, Around the World, and relay races ending with some very close victories. Overall our participants had a great time competing with each other.

Youth Project #5: Lambton Presents: Spring Tennis Social – Saturday, April 1st, 2023

JFCTA had the opportunity to take a field trip to our longtime sponsor, Lambton Golf and Country Club on a day dubbed as JFCTA Day by Lambton. Here, participants had the opportunity to play various activities on clay tennis courts alongside members of Lambton. Thank you to Lambton for their continued support of our programming!

Youth Project #4: Spring Family Event – Saturday, March 25th, 2023

The Spring Family Event is a day for JFCTA families with members of all ages to come enjoy tennis games and skill building workshops. Our youth project lead Lackshiha, worked tirelessly to plan a day for participants of all ages to enjoy along with the help of our youth coaches. The event was a great success with over 40 participants, who spent the day filled with skill development and friendly matches!

Personal Training/ Healthy Eating – Tuesday, March 9th, 2023

Our healthy living workshop was designed to show participants ways to stay active and lead a healthy lifestyle. Our youth project lead Aryana, worked to plan a fun day to promote healthy living. Participants had a healthy eating workshop, Zumba dance class followed by a sandwich and parfait making workshop. The event was a great success with over 30 participants, who got to learn some cool dance moves and enjoy a delicious and healthy meal!

Trivia Night – Tuesday, February 28th, 2023

New Year’s Tennis Tournament/ Food Bank – Thursday, January 26th, 2023

Our Tennis Tournament and Food Bank was our first youth project of 2023. Tina, our youth lead for this project had the great idea to set-up a tournament with an amazing cause. We had over 35 participants who joined us on tournament day and got to see lots of great matches. We were also able to collect 175 canned goods and non perishable items that we donated to the San Romanoway Food Bank!
